About the eBook

Alan Watts was a famous researcher in psychology connected to Eastern and Western philosophy, before he was a hero of the counterculture. In this classic work published in 1961, Watts demonstrates his deep understanding of both Western psychotherapy and Eastern spiritual philosophies such as Buddhism, Taoism, Vedanta, and yoga. He discussed the problem of human beings. In a world of apparent aggression, in many ways it discusses the social norms and illusions that constrain and bind modern man. Watts also emphasized, taking into account the pioneering hypotheses, that the influential visions of Freud and Yang, which actually pushed psychotherapy to the limits of liberation, could, if mixed with the secret wisdom reached by Eastern traditions, liberate people from their conflicts with themselves. When psychotherapy is limited to helping us adapt to social standards, it does not amount to true liberation, as Watts believes, in comparison with Eastern philosophy, which investigates our natural relationship with the universe. Alan Watts: Icon of counterculture and author of more than twenty books. He was also a spiritual philosopher, scholar of Buddhism, and a pastor at Northwestern University. He died in 1973.
