No two people disagree that there is no nation that has risen to prominence among the nations except that knowledge is the basis of its progress and greatness, and there is no clearer evidence of that than that God Almighty has His power when He wanted good for the Arab nation and destined for it to dominate the nations. He sent Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, to lead it to greatness and seek it. The path of advancement, so the revelation was revealed to him by the Almighty's saying: "Read in the name of your Lord who created. He created man from a clot. Read. And your Lord is the Most Generous, who taught with the pen. He taught man what he did not know."
This is the first divine speech addressed to Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and it emerges from the meaning of these verses that the first thing issued by God Almighty to His Noble Prophet was that he be a reader - even if he was not a writer, and had never learned to read - by God's power and will. God Almighty - who initiated knowledge for man, and he had no knowledge at all before - is not surprised by Him teaching His Prophet to read.
