The original work, Water Margin, is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of China, written by Shi Nai'an. The novel depicts the story of 108 heroes from Liangshan who rebel against corrupt officials and oppressors. Set during the Song Dynasty, it primarily tells how these valiant figures are forced to join Liangshan for various reasons, ultimately coming together to form an armed force that fights for justice.
Water Margin: A Different Way to Read (Full-Color Comic Version) organizes each hero's "character profile" according to the order in which the 108 characters appear. This provides readers with a fresh perspective, allowing for a more equitable understanding of each Liangshan hero. Additionally, by following the characters' appearances, the story presents important events from Water Margin, such as "Cunningly Seizing the Birthday Gifts" and "The Three Attacks on Zhu Family Village," in a clearer narrative style.
