The road to Oxiana
About the eBook
The Road to Oxiana takes us on an extraordinary journey through travel literature, as British explorer Robert Byron chronicles his ten-month adventure, accompanied by his friend Christopher Sykes, to Persia and Afghanistan. The book starts from Jerusalem, passing through Damascus and Baghdad, reaching the heart of Oxiana, the region surrounding the ancient Oxus River (present-day Amu Darya). In this journey, Byron seeks to trace the origins of Islamic architecture, showcasing the beauty of nature and the splendor of history and art in those regions. With a unique style and vivid narrative, the book presents an accurate and interesting picture of cultures and architectural treasures that still retain their charm, but it also expresses those times that are inaccessible to Western travelers today. The Road to Oxiana is considered one of the greatest books of travel literature, especially from the pre-World War II period, and remains today an inspiring literary classic.
